Seepex® Mechanical Seals and Packing
Replacement mechanical seals, packing, gland components, O-rings, gaskets and related sealing parts for supported Seepex® BN, MD, BT and CS progressive cavity pumps.
Seal selection depends on the complete pump model, installed sealing arrangement, shaft and chamber dimensions, materials, process fluid and operating conditions.
Replacement Sealing Components for Seepex® Pumps
The shaft-sealing system controls leakage where the rotating drive shaft passes through the pump housing. Depending on the construction, the installed arrangement may use a mechanical seal, packed gland or application-specific sealing components.
The pump-family name alone does not identify the correct replacement. Seal type, shaft diameter, chamber dimensions, mounting arrangement, face materials, secondary elastomers and service conditions must be confirmed.
Seepex® Seal and Packing Components
Mechanical Seal Assemblies
Complete supported arrangements reviewed for shaft size, chamber geometry, mounting, rotation and service conditions.
Stationary and Rotating Faces
Seal faces selected around dimensions, mating design, fluid, abrasiveness, lubrication and thermal conditions.
Secondary Elastomers
O-rings, boots, wedges and related elements selected for chemical compatibility, temperature and movement.
Packing
Packing style and size evaluated around the shaft, stuffing box, process fluid, speed and leakage-control requirements.
Glands and Followers
Gland components reviewed for bolt pattern, bore, shaft clearance, material and installed packing arrangement.
Lantern Rings
Flush-distribution components confirmed by stuffing-box geometry, shaft size and flush arrangement.
Shaft Sleeves
Wear sleeves reviewed for shaft fit, outside diameter, length, material, finish and sealing interface.
Gaskets and O-Rings
Static sealing components selected around dimensions, fluid chemistry, temperature and pressure.
Special and Legacy Seals
Uncommon arrangements evaluated using clear photographs, dimensions, drawings or physical samples.
Seepex® Pump Families Supported
BN Series
Mechanical seals, packing and related components for supported standard block-pump models.
MD Series
Sealing components for supported metering-pump models, shaft sizes and process conditions.
BT Series

Information Needed to Identify a Seal
Complete Pump Model
Provide every letter, number and suffix from the pump nameplate or equipment documentation.
Seal Arrangement
State whether the pump uses a mechanical seal, packing or another arrangement and photograph it before disassembly.
Shaft Dimensions
Measure shaft or sleeve diameter, steps, shoulders, drive features and available working length.
Chamber Dimensions
Record bore, depth, register, bolt pattern, gland dimensions and available axial space.
Existing Components
Photograph seal faces, elastomers, springs, retainers, glands, packing and identifying markings.
Operating Conditions
Provide fluid, concentration, temperature, pressure, speed, solids and any flush or cleaning system.
Seal Material Selection
| Selection Area | Available Direction | Confirm Before Selection |
|---|---|---|
| Seal faces | Carbon, ceramic, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide and other available pairings | Fluid, lubrication, solids, abrasion, temperature and pressure |
| Metal parts | Stainless and other available corrosion-resistant constructions | Chemical exposure, strength, product-contact and cleaning requirements |
| Secondary elastomers | NBR, EPDM, FKM and other available compounds | Complete fluid chemistry, temperature, pressure and cleaning agents |
| Packing | Application-specific braided and formed packing materials | Shaft speed, fluid, temperature, solids, flush and permitted leakage |
| Gaskets | Elastomeric and other available static gasket materials | Dimensions, compression, chemistry, temperature and pressure |
Common Seal and Packing Failure Indicators
Continuous Leakage
Check: face condition, elastomers, packing adjustment, shaft surface, pressure and installed alignment.
Intermittent Leakage
Check: shaft runout, vibration, pressure cycling, solids, face tracking and thermal movement.
Heat and Discoloration
Check: dry operation, lubrication, packing compression, flush supply and face-material pairing.
Rapid Face Wear
Check: abrasive solids, crystallization, dry running, misalignment and insufficient flush.
Elastomer Swelling
Check: complete process and cleaning chemistry, concentration, temperature and prior compound.
Shaft or Sleeve Grooving
Check: packing material, adjustment, contamination, shaft finish and sleeve hardness.
Inspect the Complete Sealing System
| Inspection Area | What to Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Shaft or sleeve | Diameter, finish, grooving, runout and corrosion | A damaged running surface can cause immediate leakage |
| Seal chamber | Bore, face, register, cleanliness and available space | Controls alignment and stationary-component fit |
| Mechanical seal | Faces, springs, drive features and secondary elastomers | Helps identify dry running, chemical attack and abrasive wear |
| Packed gland | Packing size, gland alignment, lantern ring and flush position | Affects cooling, lubrication and controlled leakage |
| Operating system | Flush, pressure, venting, priming, vibration and dry-run events | Correcting the underlying cause helps prevent repeat failure |
How to Request Seepex® Sealing Parts
Send the complete pump designation exactly as shown in the equipment records.

Provide shaft, sleeve, seal, chamber, gland and bolt-pattern measurements.
Include fluid, temperature, pressure, speed, solids, cleaning and the observed failure.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I identify a mechanical seal for a Seepex® pump?
Provide the complete pump model, installed-arrangement photographs, shaft and chamber dimensions, seal-component measurements and operating conditions.
Can ACCA identify packing from the pump model alone?
The complete model is the starting point, but shaft diameter, stuffing-box dimensions, existing packing size, fluid and speed should also be confirmed.
Should a grooved shaft sleeve be replaced?
A grooved or damaged running surface can prevent reliable sealing. Its dimensions and condition should be evaluated when replacing packing or a seal.
Why does a new seal leak shortly after installation?
Possible causes include dry running, damaged shaft surfaces, misalignment, incorrect materials, pressure or flush problems, solids and installation damage.
Can ACCA support food or hygienic sealing requirements?
ACCA can evaluate supported arrangements when all required materials, surface finishes, cleaning conditions and applicable compliance criteria are clearly stated.
Can ACCA evaluate an uncommon or modified seal arrangement?
Yes, when sufficient photographs, dimensions, drawings or physical samples are available to establish the installed geometry and service requirements.
