L2 Drive End Engineering Overview

The original L2 Drive End documentation covers frame sizes 1L2, 2L2 and 3L2, along with 2M1, 3M1 and 6M1 configurations that use the same drive-end family. In the frame designation, the first number identifies the number of pumping stages, the letter identifies the model relationship, and the final number identifies the rotor-stator element size.

Pin-Joint Drive Train

The L2 transmits torque through the drive shaft, shaft pin, connecting rod, rotor pin and retaining hardware. These mating parts should be inspected together during overhaul.

Nameplate Identification

Use the complete frame size, type designation, serial number and trim code when selecting parts. Material and sealing variations can change the applicable part number.

Rotor and Stator by Frame

Drive-end parts are selected by type designation, while the proper rotor and stator are selected by frame size.

Advanced Elastomer Engineering for Progressive Cavity Pumps

Every application is different, and the standard elastomer may not always be the best choice.

In addition to OEM-equivalent elastomer compounds, ACCA Pumps can manufacture stators using specialized elastomers engineered for specific operating conditions. Application-specific material selection can help improve chemical compatibility, wear resistance, service life and overall progressive cavity pump performance.

Abrasive & Solids-Bearing Service

Material options can be evaluated for wastewater sludge, mining slurries and other abrasive process streams.

Chemical Compatibility

Stator compounds can be selected around acids, caustics, hydrocarbons, polymers and other challenging process fluids.

Temperature & Process Conditions

ACCA can review fluid temperature, operating pressure and process conditions when recommending an elastomer solution.

Need help selecting an elastomer?

Contact ACCA Pumps with the process fluid, operating temperature, pressure and pump model. Our engineering team can recommend a stator material for the specific application.

Maintenance Recommendations for the L2 Drive End

Replace Grease Seals With Bearing Service

When the drive shaft or bearings are replaced, inspect both grease seals and replace them as part of the bearing-service scope when appropriate.

Inspect Both Pin Joints

Check the shaft pin, rotor pin, retaining hardware, connecting rod ends and mating bores for wear before reassembly.

Verify Packing Arrangement

Record the packing gland, packing, lantern ring and packing washer arrangement before disassembly.

Protect Stator Threads

Use the appropriate thread treatment for the stator sleeve material and apply installation force near the suction-housing end.

Use Compatible Assembly Lubricant

Lubricate the rotor during stator installation only with a lubricant compatible with the stator material.

Never Start the Pump Dry

Fill the pump with process fluid before startup and verify the discharge path is unrestricted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pump frames use the L2 Drive End?

The source L2 Drive End manual covers 1L2, 2L2, 3L2, 2M1, 3M1 and 6M1. This page focuses on 1L2, 2L2 and 3L2.

How do I identify the correct L2 replacement part?

Use the complete frame size, type designation, serial number and trim code. Drive-end parts are selected by type designation, while rotor and stator are selected by frame size.

What does the first number in 2L2 mean?

It identifies the number of pumping stages. A 2L2 uses two stages of size-2 pumping elements.

Are L2 bearing and connecting-rod kits available?

The source parts list identifies bearing kit K02291 and connecting-rod kits K0225D or K0225S depending on type designation.

How is the L2 stator part number completed?

Add the third letter of the pump type designation to the basic stator part number shown in the source catalog.

What should I send ACCA for an L2 quotation?

Send frame size, type designation, serial number, trim code, OEM part number when available, quantity and clear photographs.
