Progressive Cavity Pumps for Tank Bottoms & Oily Sludge

Positive-displacement transfer for viscous mixtures of hydrocarbons, water, sediment and settled solids from production, storage and recovery systems.

Heavy Residual Service

Moving what settles at the bottom

Tank-bottom material can range from pumpable oily liquid to dense sludge containing water, sand, corrosion products and other settled solids. Progressive cavity pumps can provide controlled low-speed transfer of these variable mixtures when displacement, inlet conditions and materials are selected around the actual residual.

HydrocarbonsCrude, heavy oil and residual product
WaterSeparated and emulsified water
SolidsSand, scale, sediment and fines
ViscosityChanging with composition and temperature
Selection Framework

Suction conditions often determine success

Dense sludge may not flow readily through long or undersized suction piping. Tank level, inlet geometry, fluid yield behavior, temperature and pump speed should be evaluated together. Abrasive solids and hydrocarbon chemistry also influence rotor, stator and seal selection.
