Progressive Cavity Pumps for Multiphase Oil, Water & Gas

Positive-displacement transfer for oilfield streams containing changing proportions of oil, produced water, free gas and suspended solids.

Three-Phase Production Fluids

One production stream, three phases

Oilfield production streams may arrive as a changing mixture of crude oil, produced water and gas, often with sand or other solids. Progressive cavity technology can be applied to selected multiphase transfer duties because positive displacement, low-speed operation and solids-handling capability can accommodate conditions that are difficult for conventional liquid-only pumping equipment.

WaterProduced-water phase
GasEntrained and free-gas phase
SolidsSand, fines and suspended material
Engineering Considerations

Gas fraction and slugging change the duty

A multiphase pump must be evaluated for the complete expected production envelope, not only the average liquid rate. Gas volume fraction, intermittent gas slugs, inlet pressure, differential pressure, fluid temperature, liquid viscosity and solids loading can all affect pump behavior and component life.

GVFExpected minimum and maximum gas fraction
SluggingDuration and severity of gas-rich periods
PressureInlet, discharge and differential
ViscosityOil phase across temperature range
SolidsSand size and concentration
SpeedCapacity, filling and wear
