Molasses and concentrated liquid-feed ingredients can become highly viscous at lower temperatures. Progressive cavity pumps provide positive displacement and capacity control through pump speed, making them useful for transfer, blending and controlled-feed duties where inlet conditions are suitable.

Selection Framework

Cold-start viscosity can control the design

Selection should use viscosity at the lowest expected product temperature, not only normal warm conditions. Suction-line diameter, length, tank elevation, pump displacement and operating speed should be evaluated together to ensure adequate cavity filling.
